Welcome

Greetings:

In 1997, the Kappa Alpha Psi, Columbia Maryland Chapter, established a separate foundation to give scholarship awards and develop comprehensive programs for assisting Howard County students in achieving academic excellence.  The Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship  Foundation of Columbia, Maryland (KAPSF) is a non-profit charitable 501(c) (3) corporation devoted to the training, mentoring, leadership, and scholastic achievement of Howard County youth.

Educating our youth is one of the top priorities today.  It is imperative that we prepare our youth to be intelligent and knowledgeable citizens. In that regard, the KAPSF has awarded scholarships to Howard County youth for over forty (40) years.  Over that period we have awarded in excess of  100 scholarships totaling over $100,000.,

Our vision is “Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today through the Support of Academic Achievement”. It is because of the past financial contributions from our Strategic Partners, Corporate Sponsors, and Individual Donors that we have been successful in fulfilling our mission in Howard County for over four decades. The KAPSF is composed of a volunteer Board of Directors that sets organizational policy, and priorities, and secures resources to support the foundation’s programs. The Board is fully committed to providing solutions for the many challenges that face our youth.

In 2019, the KAPSF provided financial support and guidance to the Guide Right Youth Mentoring Program (Kappa League) administered by Columbia, MD. Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The KAPSF strongly believes that with your investment of time, resources, and financial contributions, together we can make a difference in developing tomorrow’s leaders today through the support of academic achievement. In 2022, we have expanded our financial support system needs creating the capability for Strategic Partners, Corporate Sponsors, and Individual Donors to support our mission.

Fundraising

The KAPSF and the Columbia, MD Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity have co-sponsored several events including the Black & White Ball. Several corporate organizations also have made donations to these events. We are pleased to report that all proceeds from these events went to the financing of KAPSF scholarships. The scholarship award recipients were recognized at the events and their names and photographs were included in the Souvenir Program Booklet. The KAPSF also sponsored several Evenings of Dinner and Theatre as fundraisers. The guests enjoyed delicious meals and Broadway style performances of “Aida and “Kiss Me Kate”. The success of these events has been instrumental in the Foundation increasing the number and dollar amount of scholarships awarded. A golf tournament and 5K walk/run are planned as other fundraisers, as well as interesting innovative fundraising events and activities.

Financial Highlights

The Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship Foundation of Columbia, Maryland, Inc. is a non-profit charitable 501 (c) (3) corporation. The KAPSF was incorporated in 1997 and initially funded solely by contributions from members of the Columbia, Maryland Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. In the first year, the Foundation granted a modest four-year scholarship to Howard County High School students matriculating to college. Since that time, the Foundation has continued to grow each year and has quadrupled the number and amounts of the initial scholarships granted in 1998. Our financial goals each year is to increase the number and amounts of scholarships awarded 25% over the previous year while keeping our management expenses as low as possible. Over the years, the Foundation has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships.

The Foundation is continuously looking for new and innovative ways to generate funds. Individual and corporate donations continue to be sound funding sources.
